Retail giant DCH Auto Group names new president

By Donna Harris

DCH Auto Group
, one of the nation’s largest dealership groups, with more than $1.83 billion in annual revenue, has appointed George Liang president.

Liang, formerly senior vice president and COO of the company’s Eastern division, now oversees the entire chain of 27 franchises in California, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York, DCH says on its Web site.

Liang, 54, replaces 59-year-old Susan Scarola, who was named vice chairman and appointed to the board of directors.

Liang joined the South Amboy, N.J., company in 1988 as an assistant to the general manager of DCH Freehold Toyota in Freehold, N.J., after 11 years in commercial finance.

After holding several regional management positions and helping expand the company’s California operations in 2004, he moved to headquarters as senior vice president.

Scarola was president and CEO of DCH from 2007 to 2010. As vice chairman, she now assists Chairman Shau-wai Lam in developing corporate strategy. One of her prime responsibilities is building the company’s public image.

Scarola joined DCH in 1985, with a background in elementary education, human resources and accounting. She helped the company in its early growth years, creating its human resources department, the company’s Web site says.

Under Scarola’s supervision, DCH launched an initiative called “Test Drive the Dealer,” which touted excellent customer service. Advertisements invite prospects to shop DCH stores for a superior sales experience.

She received the 2008 Women’s Automotive Association International Professional Achievement Award and the 2010 Women Certified Vision Award and recently was chosen by Automotive News as one of the 100 leading women in the North American auto industry.
